![]() ![]() I’ve been speaking with support for about 3-4 days providing EVERYTHING they’ve asked for, and NOW some foolish employee response is that username e-mail and location AREN’T verification for account recovery? I mean hell, what kind of bull of this? How ELSE can you confirm account ownership?! They have my NAME, e-mail REGISTERED AT SIGN-UP which they probably don’t even realize despite my explicitly explaining this to them, they see finds added from a decade ago and expect me to provide a code to prove it?! Who the hell SAVES those? Furthermore. I’ve tried about EVERY recovery option possible, I hit forgot password, and suddenly self help isn’t available for r? The recovery requests sent are no help either because they think all of my devices are trying to access their webpage and the steps or whatever from “a computer in New York”, when I’m actually doing everything where I live in New Jersey. Every once in a blue moon I see some random login notification from a foreign country, most recently Hong Kong. ![]() This indicates that eventhough it's problematic serving underage customers, nobody actually complains and thus Valve profits. However it seems to be set at 13 because of COPPA in the USA. That means if you have a child that's 14, you could potentially be reimbursed for payments made years back without Steam's objection (The contract is nullified and they will delete your account). 18 is the cut-off age in the USA where you stop being a minor and receive full legal capacities. Steam is not intended for children under 13 and Valve will not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. You may not become a subscriber if you are under the age of 13. This Agreement takes effect as soon as you indicate your acceptance of these terms. You become a subscriber of Steam ("Subscriber") by completing the registration of a Steam user account. Isnt it in their agreement that you have to 18 at least to use the service. It would lighten the Support Branch a fucking ton. Crappy customers and dumb ass questions, but hell, at least go with Facebook's method of recovery. I know that Steam Support has a lot of shit they have to deal with. But shit, I'm pretty the average 13yo would fall for the "free skins, just give me your password." Afterwards, they lose full control of their account, lost their email control, and have to wait for the "god of a snail" Steam Support. Of course some of you will say, security comes first and that the mobile authenticator is full-proof. If you input an old password, Facebook will straight up tell you, "Hey, this is an old password, if you don't remember making this change, go to your email and secure your account." Their account recovery is SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD, and takes MINUTES. If you didn't do it, you can fucking cancel it! If you want to change your email, it will notify -and- ask to confirm the changes with your EMAIL. (And I'm sure you all know what kind of damages can incur during that long of a time) This means that once I change your password and your email, you have to go to Steam Support to get it resolved which can take up to fucking WEEKS -at best. In your settings, you are able to change your email without verification, which is completely impractical since a hijacker can take over your account along with THE ONLY QUICK WAY OF RECOVERING IT. Steam incorporates these barriers to make it "easy" for the average gamer to -maintain- control over his/her account, but when a situation comes where the individual loses their password or their account gets hijacked, these barriers prove useless when it comes to account recovery. Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks Steam's method of account recovery is outdated and outright disgusting. ![]()
